The Lighthouse Program is a program in Bridgeport which allows students to stay after school everyday of the school week while their parents finish their long work hours to provide for their family. The program provides a warm and safe place for the children of Bridgeport in 21 elementary schools. There are so many families that count on this program everyday.
I volunteer with the kindergarten, first, and second graders and help them with their homework, and simply spend time with them. I have grown so attached with so many affectionate children there and their inspiring efforts.
YOU CAN VOLUNTEER TOO
The program is always needing more volunteers. Working with the staff at Trumbull High School we are creating a club where students can join me in volunteering for the Lighthouse Program.
FUNDRAISING FOR SCHOLARSHIPS
There are many Bridgeport families who cannot afford to send their child to the Lighthouse Program. I have started a campaign to raise money to create scholarships for the most needy families. It costs $190 to sponsor a child for a year.
Thanks to these very generous companies who have contributed towards the creation of scholarships for 175 children to attend the program for the summer in 2009.
