DAVID IS 21. HE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH AUTISM WHEN HE WAS TWO . HE AND MY COUSIN ANDREW ARE THE INSPIRATION FOR MY COMMITMENT TO THE CAUSE OF AUTISM.

AUTISM


I have 2 older cousins with autism. David is 21 and he has never spoken to me and hasn’t said a word since he was 2. He holds my hand and high fives and goes on walks and screeches with emotion . On the other side of the spectrum, my cousin Andrew who is 18, has Asperger’s syndrome. Asperger’s is a type of autism that makes it difficult for him to fit in socially. They are the inspiration for my dedication to raising awareness about autism.

THE LIGHTHOUSE PROGRAM


The Lighthouse Program is an after-school program in Bridgeport, CT. I volunteer by helping the students with homework and spending time with them while their parents finish the work day.
